Frequently Asked Questions
How can I get started?
Contact me for a free 30 minute consultation to see if PRT is right for you.
How does it work?
PRT is hard work but we will work as a team to teach your brain how to interpret signals from the body appropriately and without fear. Based on your symptoms and history, I will customize a personalized treatment plan to retrain your nervous system and alleviate your neuroplastic symptoms. We will practice the techniques together in session, giving you the confidence to apply them as needed on your own. Note that this is a long term solution, a lifestyle/mindset shift. Your brain has developed chronic pain as a habit, and habits can be hard to break. But please remember that the development of neuroplastic pain is NOT your fault - you haven’t done anything wrong. It’s just that your brain has become hypervigilant and hypersensitive to benign stimuli. And that can be reversed.
Where do we meet? Can I have online sessions?
All sessions are virtual and I will work with you to find an appropriate time that works for both of us. I am American but live in Nairobi, Kenya so I am able to work with clients from all over the globe.
How much does it cost?
The initial session costs $90 USD and will last about 90 minutes to give us enough time to review your full history. All subsequent sessions are 60 minutes and cost $80 USD. There is a minimum commitment of 3 sessions to start to ensure you get a feel for the work. Payments can be made via Venmo or PayPal. Kenyan clients, please contact me to find out about my Resident Rates.
How long does it take?
How many sessions you will need varies for each person but I typically start to see results after 8-12 sessions. I recommend meeting once a week if your schedule allows it. Once you have learned the techniques and are comfortable practicing them on your own, you are welcome to continue to check in with me as needed.

What if I'm not new to PRT and I just have some specific questions about my recovery so far?
If you feel like you're already knowledgeable about PRT, have made some progress on your own and just have some specific questions you'd like answered to help move your recovery forward, I am also available for one-off sessions. The fee for these sessions is the same: $80 USD/hour. Email me if you'd like to set something up.
Do you take insurance?
No, unfortunately, insurance does not cover coaching.
How were you trained?
I was trained by the Pain Reprocessing Center’s training program (Level 2) and am listed in their directory of pain coaches. I have also participated in Dr Howard Schubiner's Professional Development Program for clinicians who specialize in treating neuroplastic conditions.

Who else have you helped?
Here are a few testimonials from my clients:
"I love my sessions with Tai. She is truly authentic and has the ability to enable you to see how to heal yourself. I always come away with an "aha" moment! Also her compassion and her humility reflect in her low fees." -- E.M.

"I have experienced chronic pain in multiple places over the past few years and a friend put me in touch with Tai. I immediately found her warm and attentive, and despite some skepticism over the process I decided to try it. My main reservation was that I wasn’t sure if my pain was neuroplastic or structural. Once we got into sessions, I began to see how the practice could help me, and sure enough after a few weeks my shoulder pain eased dramatically. Other pains then began to pop up in different places, which Tai assured me is common for neuroplastic pain, and we worked with these in the same way. I now realise that this is a profound practice that can help at a much deeper level than I had previously realised. As well as helping me with my pain it has also helped me with fatigue, anxiety, shame, and some fundamental core negative beliefs. It has given me greater understanding around these issues, and valuable strategies to manage them - something I will keep in my “tool kit” forever. Tai is incredibly thorough and empathetic, and it’s obvious that she really cares about her clients. I felt absolutely seen and heard by her and this therapeutic relationship has been as valuable to me as the practice itself. " -- A.M.

"I've had pain for as long as I can remember. I've seen countless medical professionals, and tried many different treatments with little to no success. Tai was recommended to me by my physiotherapist and I'm so glad I reached out to her for help. I only had a few sessions but her guidance really helped me to manage my pain, and to deal with flare ups and to prepare for activities that are triggers for my pain. I can 100% recommend her." -- A.R.

"I worked with Tai for several months due to chronic back and sitting pain . She helped me understand the mind/ body connection and reduce my fear and anxiety around my pain. Tai is an empathetic and supportive coach with many tools and techniques to help on this journey . I would highly recommend her. I have made significant progress." --S.W.

"Like most people with neuroplastic pain I had spent years searching for a medical reason and cure for my pain. I saw numerous doctors with numerous specialties. I tried different therapies-physical therapy, acupuncture, massage, etc. I started out googling chronic pain and quickly found out that there are numerous websites and podcasts which discuss chronic pain. Through all my exhaustive research I slowly came to the conclusion that I had Chronic Pain and I was not going to find a conventional reason or cure. One day I stumbled upon Tai Kuncio being interviewed. Her story was so similar to mine I was instantly interested in what she had to say. While I had finally realized that I probably had neuroplastic pain I was interested in making a connection with someone who could help me ascertain that I was on the right track and also someone who could counsel me further. Tai was so compassionate and understanding. She finally helped me get to the point where I feel like I am cured. I will be eternally grateful to her for her kind and wise counsel. Tai - again thank you- I really will be eternally grateful!" -- D.B.
